Canadian Celtic musicians to play in Oxford

6 On The Square will welcome Cassie and Maggie MacDonald for a return to 6OTS at 7:30 p.m. Friday. During a previous appearance, according to a media release, the sister duo “took 6OTS by storm; while staying true to their Celtic roots, they test those boundaries and expand them to their limits.”

Hailing from Nova Scotia and raised in a family steeped in music, singing and step dancing, fiddler Cassie and guitar and piano player Maggie are “exciting and innovative, taking a well known traditional tune and adding their own musical spin to each piece,” according to the release.

The duo has earned several awards and nominations, including: 2015 Live Ireland Radio’s New Group of the Year; 2015 “Emerging Artist Album of the Year” winners from the Chicago Irish-American News, “World Song of the Year” nominees at the Independent Music Awards, Galaxie Radio Rising Star award winners, Canadian Folk Music Award nominees for “Young Performers of the Year,” two time East Coast Music Award nominees for Traditional Album and Trad/Roots group album and double Music Nova Scotia Award nominees for New Artist and Roots Album of the year, the release said.

Tickets may be purchased online at www.6onthesquare.org at $18 pre-show, or $20 at the door. The doors will open one hour before the start of the performance.

6 On The Square Inc. is a not for profit, volunteer-based community music and arts venue located at 6 Lafayette Park in downtown Oxford.
